In february 2021, we initially made a prediction that the show would be renewed for season 3 based on high viewerships at release of the second season. However, viewership has recently collapsed from about 2.5 to less than 1.5 million viewers per episode. It’s unclear to which extend this is due to the break taken by the show in March ’21, but we’re following the trends closely.

Why do we Predict Season 3 Will be Approved?
We believe thath Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist is likely to be renewed for season 3 based on the following factors:
Ratings are up versus last year:
The current season 2 that released early 2021 is trending up in terms of ratings, with 2.3 million viewers, up more than 20% versus last year’s ratings. This is a very positive indication that the show is gaining traction with the audience. The show started off the new season really well with the return of Zoey’s as she finds out that her work life and personal life has changed quite a bit since her departure.
The show is highly rated with a 89% TVscorecards score:
Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist ended the 2019-2020 season as one of the top-rated shows of the year with a TVscorecards score of 91% (now down a bit to 89%). The season finale in particular ended on a high note with a sad, but powerful last episode: in “Zoey’s Extraordinary Dad”, Zoey wakes up with a feeling that something bad is going to happen. She later finds out that her father is dying from a degenerative neurological disease.
The season finale follows Zoey as she tries to understand what her bad feelings were indicating: is her boss about to get fired? (No, her boss even received a promotion). Is Mo going to be devastated by a recent breakup? (No, he is actually back with his ex). Is a terrible even going to happen during childbirth of her borther’s son? (No, his wife’s contractions were a false alarm). Is her relationship with Max at risk? (No, she finally kisses him after he shares his feelings with her). The news drops, and she finally finds out what the bad news is. She learns how to process her emotions about her father’s upcoming death and start to empathize more with her family and friends.
The finale received high ratings with a stellar 9.6 IMDB rating.
Zoe’s Extraordinary PLaylist has a loyal following, as shown by a TVline survey: the poll closed with over 300,000 answers, and it was Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist that led the way for the show that fans wanted the most to see renewed, with 12.7% of the votes. ‘Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist’ Is Show People Most Want Renewed (POLL) | TVLine
Why Would Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist Get Cancelled? (without Season 3)
We have observed several signals that puts the show at risk of getting cancelled with no season 3 in 2021-2022.
The high user ratings are at risk:
As mentioned earlier, the finale of season 1 received stellar ratings, putting a nice end to one of the best-rated new shows of the year. Season 2 started off really well but the latest episodes have received lower ratings, and the TVscorecards popoularity score is now down from 91% to 89%, and at high risk of falling further. It is possible that season 2 is starting to lose steam, which could put season 3 renewal at risk if the trend continues.
Ratings are sliding down:
Probably because of the relatively weak performance of episodes 4-6, the show has started to lose viewers a little faster than last year (viewership down approximately 13% versus only 3% last year). The show started on a high note with 2.6 million viewers with season two premiere, but the latest episodes had a little over 2.0 million viewers (still up versus last year).
We still think the show is nicely positioned for a season 3 renewal. We are following the ratings every week and will update this page regularly.
Renewal/cancellation Status: Renewed for Season 2
