Monarca Season 3 is sadly cancelled. The thriller drama was first released in September 2019 with its second season coming out in January 2021. The show was quite a hit with an 8/10 rating on IMDB and an audience always wanting more. Shockingly, the latest season ended on a huge cliffhanger and a lot of unanswered questions. But still got cancelled by Netflix.
Netflix has picked up a lot of Spanish shows lately, especially after the massive success of Money Heist. Many of them are mysteries and keep the audience on edge of their seats. Monarca did amazingly well its first season with fans desperately waiting for the second season. However, Monarca Season 2 did not yield the same results. The majority of the audience believed that there was a lack of material and good dialogue. Subsequently, resulting in Netflix cancelling Monarca Season 3.
On March 26, 2021, Irene Azuela who played Ana María Carranza Dávila posted on her Instagram: “There are stories that end even if they don’t end. A collaboration with people I admire, a set full of humor and respect, a loving cast and a first-rate crew … I am satisfied that we did a quality series to show off here and in other countries. Now we have to invent an ending, to you who saw it and to us who made it.”
Two days later, a Mexican entertainment outlet Sensacine also confirmed the news. Monarca had secured a lofty place among the top Spanish shows on Netflix. It peaked on the Mexican top 10 charts for 27 days while also appearing in the top 10 TV charts in the United States for a couple of days. But the decline in the quality and popularity did not warrant Monarca Season 3.
Monarca is a Mexican drama streaming television series created and produced by Diego Gutiérrez. It stars Osvaldo Benavides, Juan Manuel Bernal, Rosa María Bianchi, and Irene Azuela. The plot revolves around a billionaire tequila magnate and his family in the corrupt world of Mexico's business elites riddled with scandal and violence.
