Status for season 2
The show is NOT cancelled, but there is no official status yet on season 2
Series Information:
BNA: Brand New Animal has not been cancelled by Netflix. The original Japanese anime produced by Studio Trigger and licensed by Netflix premiered on April 23, 2020. It has been exactly a year since its release and Netflix has not yet made an official renewal announcement for BNA Season 2. But that is not a reason to panic. BNA Season 1 received incredible applause and Netflix rarely gives up on a show that’s massively popular with the audience.
Creator of BNA, Studio Trigger has several stellar anime stories under its belt including Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill, and the Promare movie. Studio Trigger is not known for making sequels but the fact that BNA is funded by Netflix is a silver lining. Netflix never declares its show a lost cause without trying a second season especially if it’s popular and making money. Besides, Netflix is releasing tons of anime series for anime lovers and making some major profit. So the future for BNA Season 2 seems bright.
Netflix also has another promising anime series called Beastars in a similar genre. Beastars Season 2 ended on March 25, 2021. The reason behind the delayed BNA renewal announcement could be that Netflix didn’t want to release the two shows so close to one another and get them overlapped. The pandemic situation could be another reason for the delay.
BNA Season 1 scored a 7.3 rating on IMDB and a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. With glowing reviews, the anime has been financially successful for Netflix. Money matters to the platform. So there is good reason to believe that Netflix will soon announce BNA Season 2.
Set in a world where humanoid animals (known as beastmen) and humans both co-exist and inhabit Earth, the series centers on Michiru Kagemori, a young teenage girl who one day suddenly starts turning into a tanuki beastman. Running away, she seeks refuge in Anima City, a city built for beastmen to be able to live peacefully as themselves, and ends up meeting a wolf beastman named Shirou Ogami. Together, they investigate how and why Michiru became a beastman, becoming mixed up in even stranger events in the process.
