Update May 10th 2021: It’s confirmed by FOX. Prodigal Son has been cancelled with no season 3.
Original prediction post:
Will Prodigal Son end after two seasons?
The show follows Malcolm Bright, an extraordinarily brilliant criminal psychologist who helps the NYPD solve crimes and catch murderers. The truth is – the psyche runs in the family. Shockingly, Malcolm’s own father was a notorious serial killer. That’s where Malcolm’s twisted genius comes from when stopping killers. But can he stop his family history from causing him troubles?
Season 1 was fairly well-received but the second season started off badly with a 30% drop in ratings. Prodigal Son is now at just less than 2.0 million viewers. The latest episodes are trailing significantly behind FBI on CBS and The Voice on ABC (About 7.0 million viewers each) on Tuesday nights in the 9-10:00 PM ET Time Slot.
Our data analysts at TVscorecards keep track of hundreds of data points to estimate renewal chances for each TV series. We have calculated a “Renewal Score” to predict if Prodigal Son will be renewed or not.

The decrease in ratings is unfortunate because the TVscorecards score remains very high at 88%, and the series maintains a highly engaged viewership. However, for networks, the fate of a show depends on the number of viewers it manages to rope in. Prodigal Son is doing a poor job at that and seems likely to be cancelled.
Renewal/cancellation Status: Cancelled
TVscorecards user score: 88%
