Jane The Virgin’s ended with the 19th and final episode of season 5, with no plans for season 6. However, a pilot order was by CW for a series spin-off called “Jane The Novelas”.
New Pilot Order in 2019
“Jane The Novelas” was going to follow the same structure as Jane the Virgin. In the new series however, Jane Rodriguez was the narrator. Each season would have been adapted from one of the fiction books: the first season was going to take place in a Napa Valley vineyard, “where family secrets don’t stay buried for long” (Per the CW network).
Jane the Novelas Series Canceled
However, Jane the Novelas was stopped after its pilot. According to The Wrap and CW President Mark Pedowitz, the CW canceled the series order because the pilot “did not have what ‘Jane’ had. It didn’t have the full quirkiness and fun.”
He further stated: “We are big fans of Jennie Urman and Gina (…) In this particular situation, this spinoff didn’t quite get to where we wanted it to get to”.
The spin-off was canceled despite the pilot order. As of early 2022, we still have not received any news that the “Novelas” spin-off was going to be re-considered, despite the success of Jane the Virgin over the years (The series received more than 40,000 ratings on IMDB with millions of viewers).
As a result, both series are now considered “Canceled”.

About this show:
Jane The Virgin Season 6 is canceled / ended - but the CW considered a new spin-off series called "Jane the Novela".
In 2019, before the end of season 5, the CW ordered a pilot for this new spin-off, according to TVline. The new series was going to be based on the heroine’s fictional novels. The series was going to follow the same setup as Jane the Virgin, with one notable change: Jane Rodriguez was hired to be the narrator. Each season would have been adapted from one of the fiction books: the first season was going to take place in a Napa Valley vineyard, "where family secrets don’t stay buried for long" (Per the network).
However, the spin-off was canceled despite receiving an initial pilot order. As of early 2022, we still have not received any news of when this new series might take place, despite the success of Jane the Virgin over the years (The series received more than 40,000 ratings on IMDB with millions of viewers).
Jane The Virgin's ended on July 31 2019 with the 19th and final episode of season 5, with no plans for season 6.
After five seasons and 100 episodes, this endearingly satirical telenovela has wrapped things up. But the good news is that all the characters of the show got a happy story-book ending. How many shows get that perfect finale that leaves you smiling cheek to cheek and make your heart feel full? Not many we’re sure.
Even though Jane The Virgin Season 6 won’t be happening, we can take solace in knowing that we saw our favorite characters happily walking into the sunset.
Unlike many shows (even the good ones) that get canceled by the network, this one was ended by the show’s creator herself. Jennie Snyder Urman had everything laid out in her mind and slowly built the story leading up to the final moments. She didn’t want any loose ends or cliffhangers (thank god). So, Jane The Virgin Season 5 was the happiest, most satisfying final season ever.
What happened in Jane The Virgin Season 5?
Every character got to fulfill their dreams and be the heroes of their own story. Jane married Rafael and finished her book, her parents went off to New York to chase their passions, and Petra gets reunited with her ex-girlfriend JR. The narrator of the show was also revealed to be the grown-up version of Jane and Rafael’s son, Mateo.
Will there be a Spin-off?
During the production of season 5, the cast already knew that this was going to be the last season. The show finished with its last episode in 2019. But there were rumors of a possible spin-off titled Jane The Novela. However, so far, there hasn’t been any news and The CW did not pick up the series.
About the show: Jane Villanueva's life turns upside down after she gets artificially inseminated. She is in for a greater shock when she discovers that the biological donor is her boss and former crush.

Jane the Virgin needs to come back. This show brought passion, dreams, heartbreak with it. Bringing it back would mean lighting up a candle of hope that was blown off. Consider this and many viewers that want this show back.
I am heartbroken to have finished Jane The Virgin on Netflix. It’s one of very few shows that is addicting, wholesome, funny, quirky, spiritual & dramatic. I wished the producer didn’t end is so abruptly. 5 stars.
