It is with great sadness that Diamond City fans have learned of the passing of actress Noxolo Maqashalala. She was found dead in her home in Johannesburg, South Africa, at the age of 44. The news was announced in March 2021. She had starred in many movies – including Hotel Rwanda and Bitterness – and was the lead actress in Diamond City.
South Africa’s sports and culture minister, Nathi Mthethwa, called her “a sterling performer who gave her best”. It was reported that she had suffered from depression for years.
In Diamond City, she plays the role of a prosecuting attorney who is setup and sent to prison.

An official announcement has not been shared by Netflix. However, the first season's initial release ended on January 6 2019, more than three years ago. Netflix renews most shows with the first six months of realease, with blockbuster hits often being renewed in the first few weeks after release.
In addition, lead actress Noxolo “Noxee” Maqashalala was found dead at her apartment in South Africa (March 2021). She had struggled with depression issues for years. As a result, due to the delay in announcing a renewal and the passing of the show's primary star, we have marked the show as unofficially "cancelled".
