Prediction: Betaal Season 2 is cancelled (32% renewal chance)
Our data analyst at TVscorecards.com keeps track of many data points to calculate renewal chances of a TV series. We compute a “Renewal Score” that predicts if a show will be renewed or not. Betaal has a “32% renewal score“ for season 2, which puts the show at “Low chances” of getting renewed for a new season.
Why do we predict season 2 will be cancelled?
There are several reasons:
- Betaal started strong and we estimate close to 5 million viewers based on several popularity indicators (Netflix doesn’t disclose viewership for most shows). However, Betaal quickly lost momentum between episodes. You can review our data analysis below to show how quickly Betaal lost viewers in its 4 episodes. While it’s natural for a show to lose viewers between episodes, this is a sharp drop-off that is significantly stronger than the trend seen on other similar TV shows.
- The series received lukewarm reviews. TVscorecards also calculates a popularity score based on various ratings and reviews found online. Betaal’s score is only 65%, significantly below the average of other similar TV series.
- While our data analysis is the primary driver of the renewal score, we also look at subjective factors that often play a role in a decision to renew or cancel a TV show. For example, the cast or producer often make positive comments about the chances for a season 2. However, we found very few or no comments for Betaal season 2.
Is there a chance that Netflix will approve Betaal season 2?
Yes. While our scores predict a TV show renewal chances with accuracy, our predictions have sometimes been wrong. In this case, we believe that the biggest reason for Netflix to renew the TV series is the success and attention it received at launch. A strong season 2 could turn things around for Betaal and capture a strong audience.

About this show:
Betaal is an Indian zombie horror series that takes place in a remote village. The town becomes an unhealthy war zone when an East India Company officer and his group of zombies attack a group of modern soldiers. The film starts with a group of people revering a spirit that they call the Betaal. An elderly woman touches a Betaal image inside their worship hall. It gives her ideas, suggesting what would happen if Betaal were allowed to exit the tunnel in which it had been trapped since the days of the British East India Company. The spirit warns the public not to let the tunnel open. Outside the town, Mudhalvan, his wife, Shakuntala, and his young daughter, Saanvi, are preparing to turn the local community into a project area for Surya. Mudhalvan has ordered the Commandant that the area be cleared for the construction of a highway in a remote village near Mount Betaal. When the troups got there, Adivasi residents refused to leave their homes and properties. The squad is forcing residents to burn down houses in preparation for the entire community to be demolished. The villagers returned to the entrance of the tunnel, protecting it with ancient weapons and farm implements. Vikram asks that they leave the tunnel entry in order to clarify the development project. When they refused, an official under Mudhalvan, operates a bomb planted near the torch door. The Baaz squad kills everyone except two villagers: a woman named Puniya and her husband, Sarpanch.
After the tunel is cleared, some construction workers went inside to begin work when screams start coming from the tunnel and a single badly injured worker manages to stumble out of the tunnel before dying.
